Hemapoetic Stem Cells

Hematopoietic Stem Cells are simply stem cells collected from embryos, so this isn’t so much of a functional definition as it is a description of their source. The power of these cells is that they’re (almost always) pluripotent, which makes them an extremely valuable tool for research. However, they’re not nearly as useful for therapeutic applications, as anything they differentiate into won’t be compatible with the immune system of the recipient. Much more promising are induced pluripotent stem cells, which are differentiated cells that have been de-differentiated into something, approximating an embryonic stem cell.
